Farman Street update

Dear Residents

I last had contact with you around this time last year, concerning the proposal to seek a Gating Order for Farman Street to reduce the impact of crime and antisocial behaviour taking place. You will recall that this process was suspended following the resolution of the long standing planning dispute involving 5/6 Western Road which involved removal of the ramp on Farman Street and the provision of CCTV and lighting in the covered area.

At that time, I felt that we would need to monitor activities along Farman Street and reconsider this approach following the operational completion of 5/6 Western Road, and that we should give it some time to ‘bed in’ so that its impact for better or worse could be evaluated.

The new bar has now been operational for a while, and whilst I haven’t received any direct contact from residents, I have been contacted by Councillor Elgood and Bill Cowell (in his capacity as Chair of EBRA) indicating that concerns are ongoing and that this process should be revisited.

I think it may be helpful to have a meeting with residents sometime in the next couple of weeks, to find out from yourselves what your experience has been since the completion of building works, and to share with you information I have at my end so that we can get a full picture of the current situation and outstanding issues which we may address.

If you think that this may be a good idea, please get back to me. If you have any comments on current issues or problems on Farman Street I would also welcome these at any time.

If it is seen as useful to proceed with a meeting, I am thinking about a venue. Previously one of the residents was able to host meetings in his home and I wonder if this might be the case again, or if I should seek a local venue. Thoughts on this also most welcome.

Yours

Simon
