'The City Council and its key partners, including the Learning and
Skills Council and Jobcentre Plus, see Apprenticeships as a valuable
employment and training route and have developed the city's first
Apprenticeship strategy
(http://www.bhlp.org.uk/news-events/news/apprenticeship-strategy-final-draft) to increase the number of Apprenticeship opportunities that will
assist the city's economy to grow and meet the challenges of competing
in a global economy.

The strategy challenges local public sector to lead the city's employers
to increase the number of Apprenticeships available by 500 starts per
annum from 2012/13. The Apprenticeship, Skills, Children and Learning
Bill currently going through the Houses of Parliament, will bring in an
Apprenticeship Guarantee that all suitably qualified young people will
be entitled to an apprenticeship place from 2013.

The draft strategy sets out how by working together employers, training
providers and residents looking at the Apprenticeship option can
increase the availability of Apprenticeships.

The Strategy is out for consultation until the end of August. Please
download the word version of the strategy and send any comments back to
Dan Shelley, Learning Partnership Manager by 31st August to:

Regards

Dan
