City Parking Review 2011

I am writing to community groups in the City to offer to attend your community meeting and to answer questions on the subject on the council’s strategic city-wide parking review which was announced by the Cabinet Member for Environment last month. The review will take a year to complete, with an update given to the Cabinet Member after six months.

It is proposed to review the way the council manages parking through consulting residents, businesses and other stakeholders as well as learning from the best practice of other local authorities. I am particularly interested to know about parking issues in local communities.

Consultation on controlled parking zones will result in a timetable for reviews, as well as look at whether the boundaries are right, the differences between so called ‘light touch’ and ‘full’ schemes, local issues, funding and disabled access.

The latest parking tariffs were taken forward by the environment, transport and sustainability cabinet last week and will be advertised for consultation through a traffic order. The citywide review will look at how pricing affects transport choice, different price bands and zones and extended hours of operation.

The review will cover both public on and off street parking. Residents will be able to give their views on how the parking service operates, including parking enforcement, times of operation and sustainable alternatives such as on street cycle parking and car club parking.
