I’m sorry for the delay in updating you on this issue but there are several sites still being investigated and actions on-going at this time. I walked the length of Western Road (Brighton and Hove ) last Thursday and Friday following up previous visits and there are still several shops that are in the process of sending in new applications for an A-Board licence which are being dealt with as they come in.

There are many shops which have already been successful in getting new licenses and I’m sure the rest will be too when they have met all the conditions required. I have told 99% of new applicants that, once we have received their application form and payment, they may put their single A-Board on the pavement even though their licence has not been sent out to them and I have done this to help the traders out in these hard times. Those shops for which we have not received applications have been told not to put an A-Board out at all otherwise they face them being removed by this team and this will happen. I have also advised ALL traders that they are only allowed one A-Board and, from next week, any that are putting two or more out will be having them removed.

I am checking the whole of Western Road on a regular basis and the other roads within the licensed area of the city in my patch but, as you will be aware, there are a lot of sites to monitor and this will not be resolved overnight after one visit so I would ask that you bear with us in this process. I can assure you that all sites will be checked and rechecked and any enforcement action necessary will be taken by this team across the licensed zones of the city.

I hope this is informative and helpful for you and I would appreciate you notifying your members that action is on-going to resolve the issues raised by the residents association.

Hamish
