Following a request from residents, police, ward councillors and the Brighton Old Town Local Action Team, the council has been investigating the potential of a night time Gating Order for Ship Street Gardens as a response to criminal and antisocial behaviour.
This process has followed the stages set out in the Brighton and Hove City Council document 'Protocol for the assessment and delivery of Gating Orders' which can be downloaded from the council website.
Following local consultation and crime analysis a proposed intervention has been developed for the night time Gating of the Gardens and this is now being circulated amongst local and statutory stakeholders for comment. Sussex Police's Brighton & Hove Division has a familiar face as their new Commander.
Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett returns to the city just one year after he left to head up the Specialist Investigations Branch at HQ CID as a Detective Superintendent.
C/Supt Bartlett said: "I am absolutely delighted to be back in Brighton & Hove, a place which means so much to me. I was born and brought up in nearby Shoreham-by-Sea. My father was the Borough Estates Surveyor for Brighton & Hove Borough Council and the head of Brighton & Hove Special Constabulary. With such family ties to the city, I am extremely proud to be the Divisional Commander for Brighton & Hove."
"As an organisation, Sussex Police is committed to understanding what crimes matter most to the public. I know that the police officers and police staff that serve Brighton & Hove are dedicated in their continued work with all partners to resolve the issues that really impact on our the residents, business and visitors to the city. Our neighbourhood teams are well embedded and will continue to build confidence within their local communities."
"We have well established and strong relationships with our partners throughout the city. This provides a solid foundation on which to prioritise the most serious and persistent offenders and to work towards deterring those who start out on a life of crime."
"Brighton & Hove is the best city in the UK and we will do everything we can to keep it a safe place to live, work and visit."
Hello,
As part of the Brunswick & Regency (LAT) campaign for safer streets, we
would like to bring to your attention the following pictures taken from
one of our members.
They show the same vehicle, a "Superdrug Savers" (YA 54 UAL) lorry
parked so close to a traffic island in Western road that buses and other
vehicles could not pass on the correct side of the road. Other vehicles
had to go the wrong side of the central traffic aisle, on the wrong side
of the road, to get past the lorry causing a highly dangerous situation.
The pictures can be seen on our parking gallery at
http://tinyurl.com/md58q3 as you can see clearly show a bus and council vehicle
having to cross to the wrong side of the road to get past.
