Bad BBQ behaviour

We the undersigned petition the council to to get together with the Police urgently to organise a way forward which will put a stop to the BBQ damage and desecration of Hove Lawns. The Council says the police should enforce the by-laws. The police say it is the Council's responsibility. Meanwhile 'Hove Lawns' along the seafront in Hove are damaged by large numbers of people having BBQs on The Lawns every summer.

Many residents of Farman Street and Cross Street were also in attendance
Bill introduced the two council representatives Jonathan and Simon who dealt with the previous aborted request for a gate.
They told us that the previous gating order was very slow going and had received more objections than any other applications in the city. The Ramblers Association and Local Access Group have issues regarding gating orders.

Farman Street update

Dear Residents

I last had contact with you around this time last year, concerning the proposal to seek a Gating Order for Farman Street to reduce the impact of crime and antisocial behaviour taking place. You will recall that this process was suspended following the resolution of the long standing planning dispute involving 5/6 Western Road which involved removal of the ramp on Farman Street and the provision of CCTV and lighting in the covered area.

Parking (ir)Regulations

Here is a story about the problem parking in Queens Road

Hello,
Could you please clarify the following parking regulation.

In the attached picture of a vehicle parked in the Northbound side of Queens
Road facing South, the vehicle is parked on double yellow lines in front of
a previously installed "No Loading" sign that has been ripped off. In fact
only 1 of the original 3 remain.

One ouf your patrols (BH574) informed me that the any vehicle parked along
that stretch is not violating any rules in regards to loading or waiting as
there is no chevrons on the kerb.

How does this relate to the fact that the stretch of road is clearly marked
at the entrance as a bus lane and as can be seen by  the large blue sign
clearly indicates it as a non restricted bus, taxi, cycle, lane. Therefore
the vehicle is illegally parked in a bus lane.

This according to BH574 means nothing as all bus lanes are only legal if
there is a camera covering it. He then refused to ticket the vehicle or any
of those parked there.

Please clarify this and if any of the information is incorrect, please
provide me with the current legislation and RTA/RTO dealing with this
stretch of road.
I can provide countless pictures of illegally parked vehicles, delivery
vehicles and other vehicles parked in contravention of the "no stopping
exvept buses", "No loading at any time" etc

On a side note, that communal bin does not help traffic flow.

Thank You
Liam Mandville

new Vetting and Barring scheme

The government's new Vetting and Barring scheme will begin operating from October 2009. Critics have branded the new rules as "insulting" and say they could deter volunteers.

What is it?

The Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland was a recommendation of the inquiry into the murders of two schoolgirls by school caretaker Ian Huntley in Soham, Cambridgeshire, in 2002.

The system replaces the three current barring lists in England and Wales (Protection of Children Act (PoCA) List, List 99 -the list of those prohibited from working with children in education- and the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (PoVA) List) with two new barred lists administered by the ISA rather than several government departments.

Lion and Lobster result

The Lion and Lobster, in Sillwood Street, Brighton, has been sending people
to the pavement outside to smoke after 11pm since a ban was put on
late-night use of a roof terrace in the middle of the building last August.

But this week a Brighton and Hove City Council licensing panel overturned
the earlier decision in the wake of evidence that having smokers on the
street was causing a worse problem.
