Street Access Issues

The Overview and Scrutiny Commission at Brighton and Hove City Council have set up a Scrutiny Panel to look at the ‘Street Access Issues’. The Panel consists of Councillors Rufus (Chairman), Pidgeon, Bennett, Watkins and Hawkes. Part of this investigative panel work is to gather evidence from interested parties.

Initially the Panel would like to invite your organisation to provide a short written summary of evidence (no more than one side of A4) outlining the issues as you see them and what your main points would be if you were invited to present the evidence in person.

The Panel’s Terms of Reference are set out below:

  • To gain an understanding of the issues relating to street accessibility within Brighton and Hove
  • To review current Council policy relating to items placed on public walkways
  • To seek a balanced range of views as to the impact of current policy and practice
  • To develop recommendations for the future development of Council policy on these issues

Please be aware that you submission will form part of the evidence base for this enquiry and as such will be made available publicly unless you specifically request otherwise.

The Panel will be holding two public meetings on Friday, 31 July 10.30-12.30 and Thursday, 13 August 10.30-12.30. A number of those providing written evidence will be invited to come and discuss the issues in more depth.
