Labour Party Conference - Regency Ward residents meeting
Residents and businesses in the Regency Ward of Brighton & Hove are being
invited to attend a community meeting to hear about the forthcoming plans
for annual The Labour Party Conference which takes place between 27th
September and 1st October 2009.
The meeting will see representatives from Sussex Police, Brighton & Hove
City Council, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and other partner agencies
presenting their updates to the local community as part of their ongoing
commitment to inform, update and answer any questions that people may have
about the event.

‘Streets for People’
Car free day – Sunday 20 September 2009
The council’s JourneyOn campaign is offering small grants to local groups to help celebrate ‘Streets for People’ – as part of European Mobility week, to promote healthier lifestyles in the city – a travel buddy scheme, a cycling poem trail, street parties and story walks were just some of the ways people in Brighton & Hove celebrated car free day in September last year.

Men Get Eating Disorders Too
‘Men Get Eating Disorders Too’ is a website and
publicity campaign that aims to raise awareness of male eating disorders
(anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder) and also associated exercise
disorders (compulsive exercise and ‘Bigorexia’ – also known as muscle
dysmorphia). Our recently launched website (www.mengetedstoo.co.uk )
provides users with information and advice on eating disorders including
definitions and the symptoms, treatments and support services available.
There are also personal stories and a message board so that male users can
connect with other men with eating disorders to share their experiences and
offer peer support.
Our mission is: Raising awareness of eating disorders in men so men can
seek support.
Our aims are:
To provide information and advice about eating disorders that is specific
to men.
To enable men to contact other men who have eating disorders to ease
secrecy and isolation of their illness.
To increase knowledge, awareness and understanding of eating disorders in
men.

Creating the City of Opportunities
Dear Colleague As you may be aware, Creating the City of Opportunities, the Sustainable Community Strategy for Brighton and Hove is currently being updated with a refreshed version due to be published early 2010.
As part of the process of creating the strategy, three public information events will be held at the Jubilee Library on the 3rd September (between 6pm & 8pm), 9th September (12pm – 6pm) and 15th September (between 6-8pm).
These informal drop in sessions will be an opportunity for members of the public to find out more about the Brighton & Hove Local Strategic Partnership, its members, and the Sustainable Community Strategy. This will be an opportunity to provide feedback and comment about the content of the strategy, what you would like to see within it, which issues are most important to you.

Reaching for Gold
"Reaching for Gold is a new competition to encourage innovation and
creativity in young people - essential skills for the industries that will
lead us out of recession. 14-19 year olds across the South East are invited
to put forward ideas that can make a practical difference to society. The
themes for the competition are Youth, Community and Disability.
Online applications are being sought from across the South East,
particularly targeting those living or working with disadvantage or
disability, through Community & Voluntary Organisations and/or schools. The
competition is now 'open for applications' and will close at 5pm on the 21st
August 2009. All the documentation, guidance and resources are available on
